Challenge
The site was a major road artery into the town of Warrington therefore the precise phasing and programming of the works was imperative. Service diversions, new drainage installations, the replacement of the street lighting system and surfacing works all contributed to what was a complex scheme. Dealing with local and highway authorities and service providers as well as an impatient public required a deft touch.
Approach
This was a new client to Hovington and from the outset we took the view that robust communication would be the key. The client was to be kept informed of each and every aspect of the scheme the statuary bodies and local authorities would be tied into our programme/progress agenda. Local businesses and residents were given the opportunity to contribute to the programming procedure thereby buying into the safe/smooth running of the scheme.
Solution
After initial discussions fortnightly meetings were held on site and programmes/progress was updated or amended as required. Lane closures, contra flow systems, diversion routes, weekend and night time working were all employed to facilitate a satisfactory conclusion to the scheme. When the contract was complete Hovington had established a true working partnership with the local and highway authorities and service providers but more importantly we had also gained the trust of an important client.
