Challenge
The project involved working closely with the client to meet their programme constraints. We kept the client’s Commercial Team informed of the effects of the evolving design solution and worked with their Construction Manager to optimise the methods of construction. The incidence of ground contamination & imposed constraints of the local EHO required us to integrate these into our programme & method of working but maintain the programmed completion date. Located on a major arterial route in Birmingham, all highway works had to be undertaken at night.
Approach
Our full time site management team worked closely with UCBuild, the Construction Manager for Safestore to optimise our programme and when the site constraints dictated demobilised from site to reduce costs. A pro-active, can-do approach enabled the team to overcome the obstacles presented by the brownfield site & enabled the project completion to be achieved within the client’s required timescales.
Solution
We held regular meetings to ensure the Construction Manager was fully informed of all developments on site. We re-programmed the scheme regularly to adapt to the site constraints, consulted extensively with the Client & examined the options available to hit the milestone dates set by the end user and were generally adopted a pro-active approach in seeking to meet the client’s needs & expectations.
